Spaces
When you open a page that shows a record, list or task, Civic Platform opens a space (or workspace) and adds a button for that space on the main menu bar. These buttons provide quick access to any page you have open. Records and data sets open to separate spaces to help you better manage multiple projects.
A space on the main menu bar acts like a browser tab. If you want to work with multiple records or tasks in Civic Platform, use multiple spaces instead of multiple browser tabs. In general, it is best practice to use only one browser tab or session for Civic Platform.
Your agency configures the number of spaces that can be displayed on the main menu bar. The most recently opened space displays at the top. When you add more than three spaces, a More icon appears at the bottom of the space icons. Selecting More displays any additional spaces, up to the limit set by your agency.
You can set Civic Platform to close the oldest space automatically when you open more than your allowed limit. Otherwise, you must manually close a space before you can add another one.
To have the oldest space closed automatically
-
On the main menu bar, select the Launchpad icon
. -
Select All Pages.
-
Find and open Preference management.
-
Select the check box next to Automatically close the oldest space.
-
Select Submit.
If you try to open more than the allowed number of spaces without having the oldest one closed automatically, you will see a warning message. You have two options:
-
Select Cancel on the message and manually remove one or more spaces from the main menu bar.
-
Select Automatically close the oldest space, and then select Submit.
If you frequently work with certain records or pages, you can open the record or page in a space and pin it to the main menu bar (up to a maximum of one less than your allowed limit). Pinned spaces stay on the main menu bar until you unpin them.
To pin, unpin, or close a space
-
Hover over the desired space icon. Two small icons appear in the upper corners of the space button.
-
Do one of the following:
-

. The icon disappears to indicate that the space is no longer pinned. -
To close a space, select the Close icon
.When you close a space, it is removed from the main menu bar. Closing a pinned space unpins it.
