Add an asset link

You can link one or more assets as children to a parent asset. When a parent-child relationship is created, a child-parent relationship is also created.

Example: Multiple street signs can be linked as child assets to a segment of street.

To link an asset to a parent asset

From the Assets page, find and open the desired asset record.
Select the Linked assets tab.
In the hierarchy tree, select the parent asset and then select Associate asset.
On the right side of the page, search for the assets to link:
1. From the Asset group list, select the desired asset group.
2. From the Asset type list, select the desired asset type.
3. Complete additional fields as desired. See Asset fields for field definitions.
4. Select Submit.
Select the check box next to each asset you want to link.

Note: An asset can only be linked to one parent asset. Assets already linked to a parent asset will not display in the search results.
Select Select.

View or print linked asset details

You can view or print the details of any child asset linked to a parent asset.

Example: You are viewing the records for a control box, and want to see the records for the linked traffic lights.

To view or print details about a linked asset

From the Assets page, find and open the desired asset record.
Select the Linked assets tab.
In the hierarchy tree, select the desired asset.
Do one of the following:
- To review asset details, view the information on the right side of the page.
- To print asset details, select Menu > Print page.

Delete an asset link

You may need to remove a link between two assets if a link was made by mistake or an asset will be moved or used differently.

Example: An agency may sell off fleet vehicles after a few years. In such a case, any asset linked to a vehicle that is sold would need to have the link deleted. When an asset link is deleted, the asset itself is not deleted; only the link between the assets is removed.

To delete an asset link

From the Assets page, find and open the desired asset record.
Select the Linked assets tab.
In the hierarchy tree, select the check box for each asset you want to unlink.
Select Delete.
