Create a new asset

You may need to create a new asset in Civic Platform when your agency acquires a new equipment or asset. There are several components that may apply to an asset, including linked assets, addresses, work orders, associated files, and details about the asset itself.

Note: Your agency administrator determines which fields are available for each asset that you create. These fields vary as much as assets vary. You may have fields for length, width, diameter, and material for pipes and water line material. Other fields may be more appropriate for a building or a vehicle. Contact your agency administrator with questions.

Depending on your agency's configuration, you may be able to search for information that you want to enter on a new asset. For example, you may be able to search existing assets rather than manually entering asset information.

You can specify the value for an asset and then start to track its depreciation. For information on asset depreciation calculation, see Asset depreciation values.

To create an asset

  1. From the Assets page, select New.

  2. From the Asset group list, select the desired asset group.

Note: You should add the asset to the same group as similar assets.

  3. From the Asset type list, select the desired asset type.

  4. Complete the required fields and others as needed.

Note: To calculate depreciation value, complete the following fields: Start value, Date of service, Useful life, and Salvage value.

  5. Select Save.
